Rainbow Six: Siege Rainbow is Magic event is amongst the very first events that were made by the team back in 2019 following the success of Outbreak.
Being an April's Fools joke it became a very loved theme. yet the first iteration was focused on Plane and Hostage, two very "not so loved" map and mode.
When the event-cell tackled the "Teddy Conflict" version, we spinned things around by making the hostages the victims and made it a "King Slayer" mode instead.
My job consisted to produce multiple in-game UI Menu Flows and Mockups and custom assets ranging from in-game Modal prompts, Rules Pages, button tiles visuals, icons and promotional marketing Key Arts.
At Ubisoft, UI Artists are also considered integrators, as of such I followed and wrote new documentations for processes, workflows and best industry practices over the years for juniors and newcomers alike.
The re-activation of Rainbow is Magic required a full visual retake in all menus. In 2020 we started remaking the whole menus from Flash to a new in-house program tied to Anvil Engine: Phoenix.
My goal, as usual, was to pay tribute to what the team created before, and/or seek to elevate it to a visual standard everyone would agree upon.
Tiles were using a simply blurred transition image for roll-overs and were made to match depending of the vertical or horizontal layout. Cards, on the other hand, were vivid and showcased the bright colors of the operators.
And, exceptionnaly, the Plastic Pals enemies the Fluffy Friends are facing against had no 3D Renders to show them in menus. So, I took on myself to make it look nice and created all of them a custom pose, and custom Plastic Shader to give them the look they deserved.
The Operator Badges in this event we designed with "cutsy stickers" in mind. Made alongside the texturing team, we adapted animals, and inspiration behind the skins and toys to give them all a unique twist.
In 2022, partnering with Florence Trudeau and Jessica Pelletier characters renders. This time I wanted to have that "Fluffy Carebears" theme oozing out. So I made a sparkly heart to house the whole collection and make them shine out their glow in magical rainbow, litteraly.
The Team icons were made with the team names in mind. The Fluffy Friends were giving a wink to My Little Pony, and the Plastic Pals, to Army Men toys.
Lastly, the HUD required a very specific Health System to track both teams Teddy's. With the art direction, and a junior: Pascale Blanchette, we made a progressively damaged teddy bear, and icons for each gadgets. All assets were kept white and color coded to ensure full accessibility.
